Information about cookies

In accordance with Law 34/2002 of July 11, on Information Society Services and Electronic Commerce (LSSI), in relation to Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of April 27, 2016, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and Organic Law 3/2018 of December 5, on Data Protection and Guarantee of Digital Rights (LOPDGDD), it is mandatory to obtain the express consent of the user on all websites that use non-essential cookies before they browse them.

What are cookies?

Cookies and other similar technologies, such as local shared objects, flash cookies, or pixels, are tools used by web servers to store and retrieve information about their visitors, as well as to ensure the proper functioning of the site.

Through the use of these devices, the web server can remember certain data related to the user, such as their preferences for viewing the pages of that server, username and password, products of most interest, etc.

Cookies subject to the regulations and exempt cookies

According to the EU directive, the cookies that require the user’s informed consent are analytics cookies and advertising and affiliate cookies, while technical cookies and those necessary for the functioning of the website or the provision of services expressly requested by the user are exempt.

Types of cookies

According to their purpose

  • Technical and functional cookies: these are cookies that allow the user to navigate through a website, platform or application and to use the different options or services available on it.
  • Analytics cookies: these are cookies that allow the party responsible for them to monitor and analyze the behavior of users of the websites to which they are linked. The information collected through this type of cookies is used to measure the activity of the websites, application or platform and to create browsing profiles of the users of those sites, applications and platforms, in order to introduce improvements based on the analysis of the usage data made by users of the service.
  • Advertising cookies: these are cookies that allow the management, in the most effective way possible, of advertising spaces that, where applicable, the publisher has included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided, based on criteria such as the edited content or the frequency with which the advertisements are displayed.
  • Behavioral advertising cookies: they collect information about the user’s preferences and personal choices (retargeting) in order to allow the management, in the most effective way possible, of advertising spaces that, where applicable, the publisher has included on a website, application or platform from which the requested service is provided.
  • Social cookies: these are set by social media platforms on the services to allow you to share content with your friends and networks. Social media platforms have the ability to track your online activity outside the Services. This may affect the content and messages you see on other services you visit.
  • Affiliate cookies: they allow tracking of visits coming from other websites with which the website establishes an affiliation agreement (affiliate companies).
  • Security cookies: they store encrypted information to prevent the data stored in them from being vulnerable to malicious attacks by third parties.

According to ownership

  • First-party cookies: these are cookies that are sent to the user’s terminal device from a device or domain managed by the publisher itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
  • Third-party cookies: these are cookies that are sent to the user’s terminal device from a device or domain that is not managed by the publisher, but by another entity that processes the data obtained through the cookies.

According to the retention period

  • Session cookies: these are a type of cookies designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a web page.
  • Persistent cookies: these are a type of cookies in which the data remain stored on the terminal and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the party responsible for the cookie, which may range from a few minutes to several years.

Processing of personal data

Centro Nacional de Tecnología y Seguridad Alimentaria (CNTA) is the Data Controller of the Interested Party’s personal data and informs them that these data will be processed in accordance with the provisions of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of April 27, 2016 (GDPR). The following information regarding data processing is therefore provided:

Purposes of the processing: as specified in the section on cookies used on this website.
Legal basis for the processing: except in cases where it is necessary for browsing the website, by the consent of the data subject (art. 6.1.a GDPR).
Data retention criteria: as specified in the section on cookies used on the website.
Disclosure of data: the data will not be disclosed to third parties, except in the case of cookies owned by third parties or due to a legal obligation.

Rights of the Data Subject:
– The right to withdraw consent at any time.
– The right of access, rectification, portability and erasure of their data, and the right to restriction or objection to its processing.
– The right to lodge a complaint with the Supervisory Authority (www.aepd.es) if they consider that the processing does not comply with the applicable regulations.

How to manage cookies from the browser

Delete cookies from the device

Cookies already on a device can be deleted by clearing the browser history, which removes the cookies from all websites visited. However, some of the stored information may also be lost (for example, login data or website preferences).

Manage site-specific cookies

To have more precise control over site-specific cookies, users can adjust their privacy and cookie settings in the browser.

Block cookies

Although most modern browsers can be configured to prevent cookies from being installed on devices, this may require manually adjusting certain preferences each time a site or page is visited. Additionally, some services and features may not function properly (for example, profile logins).
Version 1.1 – Updated February 2025.
